Paddling Island Creek

I wrote a blog post on the Stop Titan site about the “fishermen’s wing of the Stop Titan movement,” which was inspired by a great banner we saw at Atlantic Seafood in Hampstead, as we were turning onto 210 to get to the put-in for a terrific black water canoe paddle.

Posted some photos online on Picasa, which I am really starting to enjoy, and thought I’d share them here (via RSS feed), since it’s such a fun, easy thing to do, and in a beautiful place we’re trying to protect!

And of course don’t miss your chance to comment at the public hearings being held today about Titan at Cape Fear Community College’s north campus:

If you were not able to comment at the public hearings yesterday, you still have until November 20th to write a letter or send an email to the NC Department of Air Quality.

An inadequate draft permit has already been issued, but it is still possible to persuade the DAQ not to issue the actual air permit. Perhaps if enough of us speak up and say:

-we do not want mercury emissions in our air
-we are not okay with breathing particulate matter
-we DO want Titan to be adhere to the new EPA regulations re: mercury and toxic pollutants
-etc. (see http://stoptitan.org/ for talking points re: air quality)

we will be able to convince the DAQ not to issue an air permit to Titan Cement Co.
