A Taste of Italy is Splendido
Every time I visit A Taste of Italy I’m happy I did. Whether I go for an eggplant parmesan on a roll or a meatball wedge, pick up some fresh mozzarella or a little antipasto, the food is always fresh and delicious, and the service is top-notch.
The place does booming business and yet all the employees are fast, helpful, and offer service with a smile.
There are a handful of eateries in Wilmington that I’m proud to take visiting family and friends to, and this is one of them.

Taste of Italy is a fantastic little eatery and market, and the people there are great.

Salute!! I love Taste of Italy, too… and I agree the staff gives fast service with a smile…that eggplant parm sandwich is delicious. Sometimes I do wish they’d offer whole grain bread/rolls for just a little bit of nutritional upgrade. Don’t forget Martino’s near Wrightsville Beach… I think he is from Napoli via NYC… that guy takes enormous pride in his deli and prepared food and you can see his little Italian mama in the back making lasagna. It is also a wonderful local business to support when you can… I think he told me they cater, as well.

Meatball wedge @ Taste of Italy? What’s that? I’ve had one of course in New York City and its ‘burbs. Or is it more of a New England-style grinder, same thing but with a different name? And does TOI call their wedge/grinder something more NC-friendly, if there is such a thing? The NYC/New England distinctions are pretty hardily debated as I recall.

Reina: A wedgie is the condition of having one’s underpants or other clothing uncomfortably stuck between the buttocks. It often happens to kids and, um, little brothers.

A wedge in food terms is the NY version of a submarine sandwich. A Taste of Italy offers rolls and wedges, and even features replicas of each on a wall so you can see the difference. The funny thing is that Subway was founded in Connecticut, where that type of sandwich is typically called a grinder. I would consider a wedge and a grinder and a sub one and the same, but I’m open to other comments on that interpretation.
Amy: I also like Marino’s, which is quite similar to ATOI. But I contend the service is much better at TOI. I sometimes feel like they are doing me a favor at Marino’s, whereas TOI is always happy to see you.
