Three words that should drive fear into the hearts of produce departments in major chain grocery stores: Country Fresh Produce. Located at 2069 Carolina Beach Rd, my wife and I have become regulars at “Country Fresh” for two reasons: 1) it’s affordable and 2) most of the produce sold there is from our region.

With more folks than usual looking for work these days, many ignore the lame want ads in The Star-News and instead go right to places like Craig’s List. Unfortunately, so many ads on CL pay pauper’s wages, lead nowhere, or are downright scams.

Poppy, Posey and Petunia in their makeshift home the day we brought them back from Gurganis Mill Co. in Whiteville, North Carolina. Our neighbors, the Murrays, who have three cows and two donkeys suggested we make the trip out to the mill because the biddies there are guaranteed good layers.
