Michael’s Seafood Restaurant Takes Home First Prize in National Competition

Carolina Beach’s own Michael’s Seafood Restaurant (map) took home first prize at the 28th Annual Schweppes Great Chowder Cook-Off held this past weekend in Newport, Rhode Island.

In a competition that attracted more than 30,000 chowder heads, “Captain M’s Seafood Chowder” placed first in the seafood division (there’s also a straight clam division).

Owners Michael and Shelly McGowan hauled 200 gallons of their tasty concoction up to The Ocean State, and came home with $1,000 in prize money.

The restaurant is offering free chowder tonight from 6-8pm.
