“Women on Wednesdays” Program

UNCW’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) provides educational opportunities for adults in the Cape Fear region. Classes are offered on topics in the humanities, sciences, foreign language, recreation, spirituality and creativity. OLLI sponsors concerts, field trips, and international trips. Twice a year, the Pathways catalog describes current classes… this spring, OLLI added some very special events that were not listed in Pathways, including the upcoming WOW: Women on Wednesdays: April 15 – June 17, 10 am – noon.

WOW will be an intriguing series of ten programs with local guest speakers. They will lead lively discussions on various topics that are relevant to women. The atmosphere will be personal and engaging. The guest speakers are:

April 15 Judy Budd, sales manager, Wilma and Wilmington Business Journal
April 22 Janet Ellerby, Ph.D. – UNCW Interim Director Women’s Resource Center
April 29 Nancy Keller – Certified Senior Fitness Trainer
May 6 Audrey Albrecht – President, League of Women Voters of the Lower Cape Fear

June 10 Jemila Ericson – radio host, WHQR
June 17 Elizabeth Weinberg, M.D. – Oncologist, “Breast Cancer”

The total cost for ten weeks is $40, or for OLLI members the cost is $20. The group will meet at the OLLI classroom at 5051 New Center Drive, Suite 212 (2nd floor).

This program for women has been consistently excellent! Raven Bruno spoke today about the Southeastern North Carolina Food Systems Project. Their website is http://www.feastsoutheastnc.org . She is a great advocate of the locovore movement in our area.
