The Penguin changes colors

The Penguin (106.7 FM), born 5-plus years ago, was always an above average station reliable for a play list that was all over the musical map. You might hear The Ramones followed by The Grateful Dead followed by White Stripes followed by Tift Merritt. It nurtured North Carolina bands and those with ties to the Port City. But…

It is no more. The station is now The Flamingo, according to its website, though no details are available.

Maybe I missed a news blast somewhere along the way, but I’ll miss it. Maybe it just moved on the dial. Anyone have any information?

Wow, if that’s the case, kudos. Pretty elaborate prank.

    Count me fooled.

This is Kim from The Penguin and we just want to be sure you all know that The Penguin is alive and well. The Flamingo was indeed an April Fool’s prank. We are deeply grateful and moved by the overwhelming response from our devoted & loyal listeners and hope the day of The Flamingo is one we never see. With support from our community and sponsors we should have a long and healthy life. Long live The Penguin!
