James Taylor concert for Obama at Greenfield Lake

NC native James Taylor will be in Wilmington Tuesday to play a free concert at the updated Greenfield Lake amphitheater. As WHQR says, the state is politically “in play” in a way it hasn’t been for years. So McCain was here last week trying to staunch the flow of staunch Republican support, and artists like Taylor and responding in their way as well.

UPDATE: TICKETS HAVE ALL BEEN DISTRIBUTED

Speaking of musical politics, did you see this last week?: Foo Fighters tell McCain to stop using song

Said Dave Grohl about the campaign’s use of “My Hero” as unauthorized McCain soundtrack:

The saddest thing about this is that `My Hero’ was written as a celebration of the common man and his extraordinary potential To have it appropriated without our knowledge and used in a manner that perverts the original sentiment of the lyric just tarnishes the song.

I can’t find much information about how to get into this concert. What does “ticket information” mean. Do I have to go to Govt Center Plaza Monday between 2 and 5? I vote in Brunswick Co. I’d appreciate any help or information anyone can give me. Thank you.

Just read that the James Taylor tickets have all been given out for Tuesday, so not sure it’s worth following that admittedly confusing “Ticket information” above that I got from WHQR. Ebay? -ed.

Good thing it is a FREE concert, because no one in their right mind would pay to see a celeberity flaunt their political bias…who cares who Taylor supports, his vote counts the same amount of times as mine…ONCE!

Sure they would, Tyme. I have little doubt that folks would have gladly paid to see this, and I have relatively no doubt that folks at the show will be donating money to the campaign anyway. As for caring: they care because James Taylor is an artistic icon who has made a significant aesthetic contribution to people’s lives… and a hell of a lot more than most presidents!

Who James Taylor supports matters… just as who Colin Powell supports matters, and who Dean Smith supports matters, and who Hillary Clinton supports matters. Are these public figures not ALL celebrities too?

Successful artists using their talent and fame to spread a message of universal hope and prosperity by endorsing a strong political candidate seems extremely noble to me. Tyme, you have a cynical view of humanity and have quite obviously missed the point. While it is true that James Taylor is helping to advance a “biased” political agenda, more importantly, he is rewarding fans for participating in a democratic process. I wonder if you feel the same about Hank Williams JR. performing at a a Mccain Palin Rally recently. What is your point exactly?

Heck, you could argue that Palin herself is merely a celebrity booster for the McCain campaign.

I slipped in the side entry because I didn’t have a ticket but honestly would have gladly paid to see J.T. If he had been performing to rally voters for McCain I also would have gone because
    1. I like his music
    2. I like to hear different points of view.
    3. I adore all things “Greenfield Lake.”

Tyme-if you are willing to perform a free concert in the Greenfield Lake Amphitheater in support of your candidate let me know. I might be just be “out of my LEFT mind” enough to come check you out.
    GOBAMA!
