Toast to the Coast

Wilmington, N.C. - The North Carolina Wine and Grape Council has teamed up with the Cape Fear Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation for the first annual “Toast to the Coast” Wine Festival occurring on Saturday, May 24, 2008. This event will take place at Hugh MacRae Park from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. and is being hosted by Triovisions Creative Media Agency of Wilmington. “Toast to the Coast” will feature wines from 16 wineries throughout North Carolina, food from local Wilmington restaurants, live music and a Silent Auction with all proceeds benefiting the Cape Fear Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation.

Gates for this event will open at 11 a.m. for VIP and at noon for regular ticket holders. Adult tickets are $22 and children’s tickets are $5. Tickets are currently being sold online at www.toasttothecoastnc.com. Advance ticket sales end May 19, with limited tickets being sold at the gate on the day of the event. All those 21 and over attending the event will be given a souvenir wine glass upon entry in order to sample wines on display. Live music from many local bands will be featured throughout the day, including Sea Pans, Las Vegas’ Bonk, Cosmic Grove Lizards, Sponsor Recognition and Jim Quick and Coastline.

The Silent Auction at “A Toast to the Coast” will begin at 12 p.m. and end between 5p.m. and 6p.m. A wide variety of items will be auctioned off, including concert tickets, art from local artists, bicycles, weekend getaways, spa packages, and surfboards. All proceeds will benefit the Cape Fear Surfrider Foundation and will be help fulfill the chapter’s $15,000 commitment to permanently protect Wrightsville Beach Access #33. Surfrider Foundation members will be present to run the auction and help with other aspects of the event. To donate items for the auction, contact capefearchapter@surfrider.org.

Local residents are encouraged to come out to the first annual “Toast to the Coast” event at Hugh MacRae Park to support community businesses and organizations such as the Surfrider Foundation.
