Star News “Zvents”

It looks like the Star News, amidst of raft of other online changes, has rolled out a new local event platform, something called “Zvents” that aggregates, locates, and organizes local goings-on. Looks pretty nice.

I’ve been trying to get excited about eventful.com for the GP and for some software moonlighting I do. But the eventful data often ends up being too “noisy” — too much garbage and duplicated records, automatic posts that aren’t readable or useful. These Zvents look much clearer — though I imagine that like eventful this new event system is here to spare precious WSN staff, to automate event publication from some large, who-knows-from-where database.

Zvents has RSS, which we can publish here, and nice organization along categories.

Everyone is using zvents; they power everyone else which explains why the data is better and more comprehensive

Thanks, Marcus - zvents, upcoming, eventful — I think it’s sort of a race to undergird one another — to be the platform upon which the others are strutting and fretting.

Eventful also talks about all its sources, its data mining, its pub/sub and blah blah. What strikes me about zvents is not its breadth, but the good signal-to-noise ratio, as I said.
