To honor Pat Hingle

A grass roots campaign is underway to honor local acting legend Pat Hingle. Six distinguished members of Wilmington’s arts and media community are hoping to honor Hingle at this year’s Academy Awards, slated for Feb. 24.

Hingle, one of Hollywood’s most enduring character actors, boasts film, TV and stage credits that span six decades, going back to his un-credited debut in the 1954 classic On the Waterfront. His eclectic resume includes four of the five Batman movies, several episodes of The Twilight Zone, Gunsmoke, Norma Rae, The Falcon and the Snowman, The Grifters, and Dawson’s Creek. He’s worked with countless film stars, including Clint Eastwood, Sean Penn, Marlon Brando, and Sally Field.

If you’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting Pat, you know he’s as down to earth as he is proud to have been a working actor for so long. In fact, the 83-year-old continues to work in local productions and recently finished a film called Un-Doing Time, which was shot in Wilmington. He also did a run last year at Thalian Hall in a production of Tuesdays With Morrie, which was fabulous.

To help honor Pat Hingle with a lifetime achievement award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, please join in a letter writing campaign at www.oscars.org/contact/general.html.
