Kids Today

Most of my friends think I don’t like kids, and for the most part, they’re right. But really when I get to the heart of it, it’s bad parenting I don’t like. And you all know what I’m talking about – the three kids just the other night at Nikki’s Sushi Bar who ran around the restaurant terrorizing the dinner patrons with makeshift swords made of chopsticks while their 20something mothers sat at a table oblivious. Just as a for example…

So, it warms my heart when I see or hear of young folks doing cool things. On my daily 4 mile ambulatory this morning, I came across a hand-lettered, magic-markered sign that had blown down from a streetlight. I reproduce it here in its entirety:

Keyboard Player Needded!

Auditions

When: Dec. 10th 5:00 – 7:00pm

Where: 3401 Aster Ct. (Greeter will be at door)

Must be beetween ages 5-8. Parent must attend!”

I love it. I love the creativity, the make it happen attitude, and I’d LOVE to hear the kiddo hipsters’ band when they get it together.

Here’s a shout out to all the great parents out there – it’s the hardest job in the world and I’m grateful when it’s done well.
