Hollywood East Cinema Grill Closes

It’s a crying shame but it appears that the Hollywood East Cinema Grill on Shipyard Blvd has closed for good. No more pitchers of Ying Ying and a pizza or a burger while watching Tinseltown’s latest assaults on our senses. It closed in the spring with a vague notion of renovating. Shortly after that the owners floated the idea of a liquidation auction. Now the whole thing appears kaput. This is from its website although I don’t know how long its been posted :

It is with deep regret that we must announce that Hollywood East Cinema Grill will NOT reopen and has closed for good.

We wish to thank everyone who has been involved with this enterprise over the years…including patrons, vendors, and employees. Your continued support, especially during the past 6 months, has been very much appreciated.

Oh no! That is so sad. I loved drinking Ying Ying and watching cheap movies. I remember WUIN ‘The Penguin’ hosted a really great Aimee Mann concert thereb. Well, Mann wasn’t there live or anything but there was a video of her live show being played on the big screen, and it was a lot of fun–too bad.

Cinema Grill! Waaaaa! R, like you I’d heard something about a re-opening with first run movies.

We sure had a great time there — two dollar shows (was it?), the occasional hoot-at-the-barrels surf movie from Tony Butler and the wblive.com guys, an Aimee Mann concert DVD on the big screen one time (!) from the Penguin, big pitchers of Ying Yang.

Didn’t the university buy the movie theater next to Tidal Creek — Cinema Six or something? (Speaking of theaters).

What are plans for that? ‘Nuther parking lot?

[…] the parking lot behind the now defunct Cinema Grill East is a bright and funky-painted building with a “Flaming Amy’s BOWL” marquee. Not […]

My kids and I are sure sad to see the Cinema Grill go. We had so much fun going there and having dinner while watching a movie. There are not enough things around to do with your kids that don’t cost you a fortune!!!
