Local podcasts

Looks like WHQR has begun to publish subscriptions to podcasts of its content

That’s great! I was actually looking around for the Front Porch podcast that the Star News does, featuring Si Cantwell and News Director Catherine Welch. Had a little trouble searching for those on the Star News site, and don’t see them organized together at all, but have enjoyed listening to one or two of those in the past — some with subjects as absolutely local and specific as a tree that’s been cut down to make way for the Home Depot out at Monkey Junction, near our home.

I thought I might approach the Star News about doing a little citizen programming for their podcasts, since it’s such a great medium that it looks like they’re just beginning to work with. The podcasts are in the right MP3 format, but the files themselves are not labeled appropriately (e.g., with genre, title, description), nor are they gathered together in a feed that I can see, and the result is that they can get lost in your playlists and your player; you can’t just go get the latest, which is what’s so nice about the medium.

Here’s an example Front Porch, though not a new one:

They’re sort of spread out in various places around the site
